DP83640 one-step sync in two-step mode

I'm trying to insert timestamps into my sync packets, however I can't seem to force TX events to capture timestamps while in one-step mode (so I can use it in my follow-up). Any ideas?

Another way might be to loopback the packet after timestamp insertion. Is there such a mechanism?

If you are operating in one-step mode and inserting timestamps into the Sync packet, you shouldn't need any Follow_Up packets. The PTP Slave would simply extract the timestamp from the Sync packet. Please let me know if I misunderstood your intent.

I'm trying to mimic a master that's obviously operating a little outside the protocol spec. It's sync message has the same timestamp as the followup...

Brad,

No, the different means of handling timestamps (insertion, PHY status frames, register read) are mutually exclusive. If the timestamp is inserted into the Sync Message, it will not be available via the other methods.

I don't fully understand the intent of this test. Perhaps if you could describe the end goal, we can come up with an alternate way of accomplishing that goal?
