Looking to convert GIGE copper to Fiber

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TNETE2201B

Hi all,

I'm looking to convert a GIGE copper connection to fiber and then back to GIGE copper with no CPU.

Is there a dual port GIGE TI phy device which provides a fiber TX+/-, RX+/- interface to a SFP module from a standard gige 4 pair connection as a hardware only implementation?

Thanks,

Mitch

  • Mitch,

We do not currently have a dual port GigE PHY in the portfolio, but we are always interested in current customer needs. Could you share some information on the end application where this would be used?

As I understand it, you are looking for a dual port device that will support a Copper cable connection on one port and a Fiber cable connection on the other port.  What additional features or requirements would be important for your application.

As an aside, we do have a 10/100 PHY in our portfolio that supports this functionality, the DP83849.  We have an application note with additional details on this type of configuration (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snla086).  Is this essentially the functionality you are looking for at the GigE speed?

  • Hi Patrick,

On that note, could I use two back to back TNETE2201B chips to perform the 1G conversion?

    Thanks,

    Mark
