Internal loopback mode of DP83620

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83620

Hi,

I would like to use the internal loopback feature of the DP83620 in conjunction with 100BaseFX operation of the chip. This mode is planned to be used as an actual operational mode to implement an internal transmit loopback on failure of Fiber Receive to simulate a closed optical ring. To help plan this usage I would like to know the following:

1. While the internal loopback is made active, will the function LINK status as indicated by pin LED_LINK and bit 2 in BMSR continue to show actual status Fiber RX link?

2.  While the internal loopback is made active, and if the fiber Receive link is ok, what will be transmitted on the Fiber transmit ? It is said in teh datasheet that no data will be transmitted during the internal loopback activation. In such case will the transmitter be sending continuous IDLE pattern? In other words, will the remote partner get a LINK OK status? As said, assume that the Rx link is Ok during the internal loopback activation.

3. While the internal loopback mode is active, if the Receive fiber link is disconnected, will the transmitter send FAR END FAULT pattern to the peer?

Regards,
