DS90UB913A / mode change from PCLK mode to External oscillator mode

Guru 20090 points

Hello,

Can I change mode of DS90UB913A from external oscillator mode to PCLK mode when system is operating?
I think that we can change the mode when we change the Rmode by switch or etc.
Our customer start up procedure is the following.

1.Power Up
2.DS90UB0913A is operated by external oscillator
3.Access to the imager via back channel from DS90UB914A.
4.imager output the PCLK
5.DS90UB913A mode is change from external oscillator mode to PCLK mode.

  • Hi Ryuji,

From what you are describing it sounds like you mean the internal oscillator.  External oscillator mode can be seen in the figure below.  External oscillator mode still uses a PCLK from the imager in addition to an external oscillator as a reference to the imager to increase jitter tolerance.

When a pclk is not applied to the 913A, in either pclk or external oscillator mode, the 913A will establish the FPDIII link from its internal oscillator.  This is automatic and in this mode you are able to communicate across the forward and back channel via I2C. When a pclk is applied the 913A/914A will automatically change to the mode defined by Rmode.

From your procedure I would recommend only using PCLK mode and using the 913A's internal oscillator for the initial communication to the imager.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hello Mike san,

    Thank you for the reply.
    I understood.

  • Hello Mike san,

Could you please let me know the time that the I2C block is enabled after Power ON in PCLK mode?

I think that the device sequence is as below.

    (1)DS90UB913A is powered on
    (2)Internal Osilator is powered on
    (3)I2C is enabled
(4)Access to the register of Imager via back channel
    (5)PCLK is enabled

I would like to know time between above (1) and (3).

    Best Regards,
