TUSB8040A1EVM - SLLA341A ref design vs. data sheet

We have a question in regards to the SLLA341A reference design for the TUSB8040A1EVM. The page #1 shows that the rx pair of the upstream signal (host) is connected to the rx pair of the host. However, the datasheet mention that these pins are an input (A44, B40 – p11). There seems to be a mistake here. Could you kindly clarify this point please

  • Hello,

The terminals A44 and B40 are not connected to a Host but to a USB std type-B connector, when you connect a USB compliant cable then the Host's TX will be physically connected to the Hub's RX.

    Regards.

  • Hello Anjli,

Actually both documents are correct. The reference design document (SLLA341A) shows an implementation of an EVM in which the USB_SS_RX terminals of the hub are connected actually to a USB Type B connector (and not directly to the host). For that particular design a standard 'USB3.0 Type A to type B cable' is needed for connecting the US port of EVM to the Host, being the USB standard cable the one that performs the actual physical connection between the US_RX pairs of the hub to the DS_TX pairs of the host.

    Best Regards,

    Alexis Cortes.
