Answer: For all repeater and mux buffer devices (i.e. DS80PCIxxx, DS1xxMB203, DS100KRxxx, DS125BRxxx, etc.), the Slave CRC bit should be set to 1 in SMBus Slave mode, Reg_0x06[3]=1. After Reg_0x06[3] is written to 1, then the user can write to key registers in SMBus Slave mode such as EQ, VOD, DEM, etc.
When Reg_0x06[3] is set to 1, then Reg_0x05 (SMBus Slave Mode CRC bits) is not used and can be ignored.
