i wonder if the the exposed pad of SN65LVPE504 is connected to GND or any other potential.

Hello Michael,

That's a thermal pad, this terminal is either unconnected or tied to GND (I don't have the exact pad connection for this device), however in both cases it is recommended to connect to ground.
