DP83630 AND AFDX

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848K

e2e,

Does TI have support for the Avionics Full Duplex Ethernet Network (AFDX) ?  Thanks for your help.

Regards,

John Wiemeyer

  •  Hi John,

I am going to move your question to the Ethernet forum so that it can get the proper support and visibility. They should be able to address you question.

    Thanks!

    John

  • Hi John W.,

At this point, we don’t have enough information regarding AFDX protocol to give a complete response. However, at least one customer in the past has used DP83848K for ARINC664 application. Their main goal was compliance testing, essentially repeating UNH testing to confirm that we meet the spec.  UNH is a third party test house that has tested the parts to meet the IEEE specs / masks.

We don’t think there is any reason why the device will not meet your needs. It will also help if you could elaborate upon the specific requirements with regards to AFDX.

  • Thanks for your reply Aniruddha.

The details you provided are helpful.  You mention that UNH has tested the DP83848K to meet IEEE specs.  I expect that those specs are those which are listed in the DP83848K data sheet.  AFDX is based on the original IEEE specifications, but some reseach is rquired to determine what OSI layers are affected by AFDX.  Clearly this is an exercise for hte customer.

Knowing that at least one customer has used the DP83848K in a ARINC664 application.  If there were any addiational details on the results of their compliance testing and if the final product was found to be compliant to the ARINC664 specification those would be helpful as well.
