TUSB8020B_Settings

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8020B

This would be a very basic question. Im planning to use the part to interface two different converter chips with different VIDs and PIDs. When downconverted with TUSB8020B part, and plugged into a host machine, how will this be detected in the machine. Will i be able to see two different VIDs and PIDs of the converter chips or will it be the TI part ID. I want the part to act just as a bridge and want to see the VID and PIDs of the converter chips. Is it possible?

  • Hello,

The TUSB8020B will not change any VID/PID of the downstream devices, so for example on the win Device manager you will be able to see the TUSB8020A with its own VID/PID and you will also be able to see ever downstream device with its corresponding VID/PID.

    Regards.

  • Thanks for the info. Does this mean, i can design a circuit on the downstream side with all the capabilities that it has, if connected directly? To elaborate, im planning to use a USB controller chip on the downstream side. It will have its on VID/PID and my understanding is, i can use it the same way as it is connected directly to the port. Is it possible to have a call so that i can clearly understand everything?

  • Hello,

I don't understand, can you provide a block diagram of your application?

    Regards

  • Hi,

Im using the TI USB HUB to split to two downstream ports. The downstream ports are two controller ICs.

    DOWNSTREAM-1  -  CYPRESS FX3 USB3014

DOWNSTREAM-2  -  CYPRESS FTDI USB To JTAG

i need to control both the downstream ICs separately. I use Labview software for controlling these chips with their VID/PID information. Hence, i need to ensure that when i do the shown configuration, the VID/PID of both the downstream devices should be shown in the device manager(you already said that it will work). I really dont want to use I2C/SMBUS and dont need to configure any registers. Can I do this and make sure that everything works fine? That is, Once the HUB is powered, the downstream devices should be detected in the host.

Please respond asap. let me know if you have any doubts.

  • Hi Jijo,

Yes, that application will work.  The hub just passes data between downstream and upstream, it does not modify it in any way.
