TCA6416A – About 5V tolerant I/O ports

Hi Team,

 

Our customer is studying about 5V tolerant I/O ports.

I understood that the device is not broken if 5V was applied to the port which was set to the input port.

Also, I believe that the device is not broken if 5V was applied to the port which was set to the output port (output is High level).

Is my understanding correct?

    If a P-port is configured as an output LOW and 5V is applied externally, this will cause a short to ground.

    Although the pin can tolerate 5V, if the current is greater than 25 mA then this could potentially cause damage to the device.

    This is the maximum recommended IOL level on page 12 of the datasheet.

    P-port is configured as an output Low (Configuration Registers=”0” , Output Port Registers=”0”)

    Kanemaru-san,

    In Case 2 there will not be damage to the device, but why would you apply 5V externally when a P-port is configured as an Output?

    So, they would like to use the output like the low active.

    Could you please let me ask the following question?

    I understood that the voltage of the P-port pin is High(1.8V) when a P-port is configured as an output High(1.8V) and 2.8V is applied externally.

    Is my understanding correct?

    ------

     

    [Q2]

    This device has the 5V tolerant I/O ports.

    Therefore,  I understood that the current from VIN can't flow to VCCP.

    Is my understanding correct?

    And, could you please let me know if you have any advice?
