TUSB2046B

Team,

My customer will be using this device in self powered hub and self-powered downstream device mode.  One of the downstream devices goes into a low power mode when its USB bus is "idle".   If they are not using power management, can they make this device go idle by asserting it's overcurrent input?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Aaron,

USB is a host driven bus, so if implemented per the USB specification, only the host can suspend (low power mode) downstream devices.  I definitely wouldn't recommend using the overcurrent input to manage power since any overcurrent event is reported back to the host which then disables the port power.  The host then has to re-enable power and re-enumerate the device once the overcurrent event ends.
