Error in ONET1101L datasheet and Application Report SLLA311

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ONET1101L, ONET4201LD

Hello,

I would like to discuss two errors in drawings concerning TI Lasers Drivers:

(1) The Application Report SLLA311 "Considerations for PCB Layout and Impedance Matching Design in Optical Modules" is excellent. But on figure 3(A), "Single-Ended Mode", the laser is in a branch with an inductor, which is a dead branch for the RF signal. Shouldn't the laser be in the branch just above?

(2) The datasheet ONET1101L "11.3 Gbps Laser Diode Driver" is also excellent. But on figure 20, "AC Coupled Single-Ended Drive", the laser is connected on the anode side only with inductors, which makes it a dead branch in RF. Isn't there something missing?

Could you please study these two problems and tell if I am right to mention these errors? can you provide corrected versions of the documentation?

Thank you,

Olivier

  • Oliver,

These connections are not correct. Figure 3A in SLLA311 should be similar to Figure 24 in the ONET4201LD datasheet. Figure 20 in the ONET1101L datasheet should not have inductors from the laser anode to VCC as this will block the high speed signal. The diagram should be similar to that shown below.

    Regards,

    Alex.
