Generating Frame Sync signals from 3G/HD/SD SDI video input

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0341, LMH1983, LMH1981, THS8200

Hello;

I am looking for a way to detect the start of video frame in any of the standard SDI video inputs. The signal will be used as the synchronized trigger for another camera. The latency between the actual video frame and the trigger should be less than 0.7 ms.

I also noticed that THS8133 is obsolete. I am thinking of using LMH0341, but unsure whether this is the best IC or no. I am wondering is there any simpler method to detect the start of frame than de-serializing the input.  I will be thankful if you can inform me about any alternative IC or Method.

Thanks,

Nikoo

  • Hi Nikoo,
    Please take a look at LMH1981 and LMH1983 devices. These are video sync seperator and SDI clock and top of frame generator. SDI customers usually use these two devices to generate genlocked video clock and top of frame generation.

  • Hello Nasser,

    Thank you for your reply. We have already had LMH1981 for analog videos. I noticed that most of SDI applications involve generating the SDI signal, in which the input is analog and the output is digital, so they use LMH1981 and LMH1983. We actually have SDI inputs, in different formats, and want to synchronize other digital cameras with the start of each active frame. So the input is digital and the syc packet should be detected. We are now thinking of using THS8200, and I am still reviewing the datasheet. Will be great if you can provide me with more information about any development board for THS8200, also if you think any other method of implementation is more suitable for our application.

    Thank you,

    Nikoo
  • Hello Nasser,

    Just a quick question; does THS8200 accept 3G-SDI or no.

    Thanks,
