TUSB9261 with drives larger than 2TB?

We are having a problem when we use drives larger than 2 TB with the TUSB9261.

When we format a drive using either GPT or MBR mode using the TUSB9261 and then take that same drive and connect it's SATA port directly to the system without the TUSB9261 the volume the was created does not show up in Windows. Is there any limitation of drive capacity when using the TUSB9261? Has it been tested with drives larger than 2 TB?

Hello,
I am not aware of any limitation in regards with capacity.
I will double check though.

what is the operating system?
Are they using the latest firmware available a ti.com
Are they using a TUSB9261 Demo board?
Does the drive works behind the TUSB9261?
Have they tried opening the Disk Management option to assign a drive letter?

It works but when we remove the TUSB9261 demo board and connect the drive SATA port direct to the system, the drive volume is gone.

Have they tried opening the Disk Management option to assign a drive letter?

4KB logical sectors are emulated for HDDs larger than 2.2 TB which use 512-byte sectors so they can be supported under WinXP which does not support 16-byte SCSI command. It also automatically aligns 4KB physical sectors. That is why the HDD is not recognized after removing from the TUSB9261.

Larger HDD which use 4KB sectors should not have this limitation.

Is there any work around or other part to consider. This new info will eliminate this part from consideration.

Hello,

As I understand, this limitation is not caused by the TUSB9261 but by the HDD and operating system.

Am I correct Brian Q. ?

I can provide FW to remove the winXP workaround and that will fix the issue but the 9261with 2.2+ TB drives will not work under winXP anymore.
