Use TPD12S520/TPD12S521 to be the second source for eachother

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD12S521, TPD12S520

Dear,

I need your help to confirm the questions about TPD12S520 and TPD12S521, shown as bellow. Thank you very much.

  1. Could TPD12S520 and TPD12S521 be used as the second source for eachother?
  1. The difference of pin mapping between them is the function of Pin 38. Pin 38 of TPD12S521 is 5V_out, and TPD12S520's Pin 38 is NC.
  2. There are diffirence when dealing with Pin 20, HOTPLUG_DET_OUT. From the typical schematic in their datasheet, HOTPLUG_DET_OUT of TPD12S521 is pulled down to GND, and TPD12S520's is pulled uo to 5V.
  • How to deal with the pin HOTPLUG_DET_OUT?
  1. As descibed in 1.b.
  2. What's the difference in there application eviroment? Is there some concerns?
  • About the driver capability of level shift
  1. The driver capability of level shift isn't specified in in the datasheet. From the block diagram in the datasheet, there is no Buffer built with the level shift. So, is the driver capability of level shift good enough?
  2. If the driver capability of level shift isn't good enough, how could it be improved by external cuicirt?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Jason Liu

  • Jason,

Thanks for your inquiry. Due to the holidays responses may take longer than usual. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • Jason,

Regarding using one to second source the other, it is possible only if the 5V_OUT over-current switch is not used. Then just route through pins 1 and 38 with the 5-V rail to provide ESD protection.

HOTPLUG_DET_OUT can work on TPD12S520 as it does in TPD12S521, i.e. it can be pulled up.

The driver capabilty is able to drive an HDMI compliant 700 pF load.

    Regards,
