HDMI CEC pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

if we have no content we want to protect or any remote control options we want to use can we just leave the CEC pin floating?

if we leave the CEC pin floating will that prevent any displays from accepting our video signal?

  • Hello,

If you are not using the CEC pin, we recommend that you connect it to ground through a 75 ohm resistor. The reason for this is mainly due to ESD. We have noticed that when the CEC pin is left floating, an ESD strike to the HDMI cable/port can cause the ESD energy to jump to other pins, which can damage the HDMI transceiver. For this reason, we recommend that the CEC pin never be left floating, and instead connected to ground via a 75 ohm resistor.
