Analog LaunchPAD Ethernet Integrity Software Utility for DP83848-EP

I am planning on using DP83848-EP and came accross Ethernet Integrity Software Utility.  What interface in need to run this utility on DP83848-EP?  Is this via RJ45 or JTAG?  IF RF45, then what other diagnostic utility is available via JTAG besides Boundary Scan?

    Hi Amit,

    The Ethernet Integrity Software Utility is used for the DP836x0 devices. It controls the PHY registers using USB by being a bridge between USB and MDIO (like SPI or I2C but for Ethernet PHYs).

    What are you looking for? To control the PHY registers or to send Ethernet packets or to run JTAG?

    Ross,

    I am looking to run diagnostic on the ethernet interface for development and manufacturing by sending ethernet packets.  For development, I may not have the software to configure the PHY, so I might use the utility to configure it and run tests.  Will this utility help with that and through what interface.  I don't necessarily need to use JTAG unless this utility requires JTAG interface.

    Hi Amit,

    Do you have a FPGA/ASIC/CPU that has MDIO? This interface is what is used to configure the PHY registers.
    What modes are you trying to configure the PHY into?
