DP83620 Loopback question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83620

Dear team,

My customer is now using our DP83620 and want to use loopback to debug, these is a question about the lookback mode, I see following from our datasheet, it seems our DP83620 can support the MII loopback, but I can't see other loopback modes showed as followed picture, am I correct? Need your kindly support! Many thanks!

Sulyn

  • Sulyn,

You are correct. The picture shown in your post is from the TLK1xx devices. The loopback modes for the DP83xxx 10/100 devices is slightly different. We will get back to you with more information on this shortly.

  • Hi Patrick,

Recently my customer(ENVISION Shanghai) is debugging our DP83620, and they meet the above issue.

Do you have more information about BIST and loopback which lick TLK1xxx device?

    Regards,
    Jack
  • Jack,

The two main loopback modes for the DP83620 are the internal loopback (in register 0x00) and the PMD loopback (in register 0x17).

The internal loopback allows customers to transmit data from the MAC and loop the data back to the MAC. This helps validate packet traffic between the MAC and the PHY.

PMD loopback allows customers to transmit data from a link partner and loop the data back to the link partner. This helps validate packet traffic between two PHYs.

As a side note, PMD is the acronym used in the IEEE specification. It stands for Physical Medium Dependent and it refers to the portion of the PHY that connects to the cable. Sometimes PMD loopback is referred to as reverse loopback or lineside loopback.

What is the problem that Envision Shanghai are having? What assistance do they need with their debug?

    Patrick
