Hello,

I have a board with two ds125df1610s. One must have each quad configured to route channel 0 to channels 0,1 and channel 2 routed to channels 2,3. The other ds12df1610 must have each quad configured to route channel 1 to channel 0 and channel 3 to channel 2.

What values should I program into registers 0x9b and 0x96.

Hi Greg,

For this case, you would like 2, 1:2 fanouts in each quad.

For channels 0 and 1 of the quads use the following values:
0x96 = 0x1C
0x9B = 0x00

For channels 2 and 3 of the quads use the following values:
0x96 = 0x1E
0x9B = 0x02

Be sure to configure each channel for your desired data rate. Let me know if you have any issue with these settings.

Also, the programming guide for the DS125DF1610 give a description of the cross point functionality and includes example configuration.

I found these values to work.

channel 0 0x96 0x0C
         0x9b 0x00
channel 1 0x96 0x3C
                   0x9b 0x00
channel 2 0x96 0x0C
                   0x9b 0x00
channel 3 0x96 0x3E
                   0x9b 0x02

Is this correct?

Hi Greg,

Register 0x96 bit 4 is the cross point enable bit. This bit should be set to 1 if you plan to use the cross point functionality. Otherwise, with this bit set to 0, the channel will operate in the standard straight through configuration.

We also recommend to always keep register 0x96 bit 5 set to 0.

Did you try the register settings I provided?

2.20 page 41
If the cross point is used to broadcast data from one EQ to multiple channels at the same time
then one channel must be assigned to have master control over the EQ for the purposes of EQ
and DFE adaption. All other channels receiving data from the EQ should be configured to
operate as a slave to the master channels adaption. To configure a channels CDR to be either a
master or slave for the purposes of adaption with cross point routing, write to 0x96 bit 5.

2.20 page 41
The local buffer is used when the cross point passes data from the EQ of one channel to that
same channels VGA/DFE, CDR and driver blocks.

So should channels 0 and 2 have the cross point enabled. And channels 1 and 3 should be slaves.

The DS125DF1610 Programming Guide used to be an NDA-confidential document, but we have recently changed the DS125DF1610 to become a public release IC. Our team is preparing to do an internal review of the existing document before releasing to TI.com. In the meantime, I will send you a private e-mail with the most recent Programming Guide draft.
