Hi,

I have problem with TLK110 PHY to make it operate properly. I have designed a hw board which uses almost the same configuration as the f28m36 controlCard. For the RJ45 connector I use the Pulse JXR1-0011NL, which has very similar parameters to J0011D01BNL which is used on the controlCard. The communication between the PHY and the MCU is working properly and I can also read the auto-negotiation information of the remote device, but for some reason in the PHYSTS (0x0010) register I read cleared bits at 10, 9, 0. -> Signal is not detected, Descrambler Lock is not indicated and Link is not established. All these bits are set in the case of controlBoard.

Do you have any idea what can be the problem, or any suggestion how can I find it out.

We can provide some recommendations for debug. Just to clarify, it sounds like you have the ability to read and write registers via MDC/MDIO, correct? For the functionality you have described, have you seen this behavior on one board or several? What is the link partner when you are attempting to link and not seeing link or descrambler lock?

Hi Patrick,

Yes, I can read and write the registers via MDC/MDIO. I have already tested 2 prototype boards, but both have the same problem. I have already tried some different kinds of link partners, but I am comparing my board and the controlCard behaviour with a D-Link GO-SW-8G switch link partner.

In the meantime I measured the RD+, RD-, TD+, TD- signals and it seems that the signal amplitude on the controlCard looks fine. Its amplitude is around 1V. On my board these signals have only 200 mV.

Hi,

Today accidently I have tried a new link partner. It is a TP-Link TL-SG1008D switch and in this case the TLK110 PHY could establish a 10Mbps link. Is it possible that in the circuit diagram there are some limiting factors which does not allows the PHY to switch into a 100Mbps connection?

Hi Ross,

Thank you for the link to the best practices! I measured only 1.6V on the PFBOUT line instead of 1.8V and the RBIAS resistor was a 51k one instead of 4.87k. I replaced it and now the board is working properly.
