We have a planned RS485 network for two networks each with up to 15 position sensors in daisy chain RS485 loops. According to our reliability experts the 485 provides a single point of failure mode which in not desirable since this application is subsea with a high degree of reliability requirement.

I would like to know if there are TI devices that could make these loops failsafe?

  • Robert,

Did you intended to give the post the subject "john griffith"?

By 'daisy chain loops' do you mean each sensor taps a single data line or do you mean each sensor has two RS485 ports and acts as a repeater?
  • Thank you for your response Ron. I had notice that John Griffith was listed as an Application Engineer hence the subject title.
What I mean is that 15 position LVDTs are to be connected serially, daisy chained, on one RS485 port and this circuit is duplicated to provide required redundancy. The question is what can TI provide that would make one RS485 loop more reliable, i.e. failsafe if at all possible.
