I am communicating to my hub via rs232 at 9600 baud rate. I am utilizing CAN as my comm between the hub and up to 8 other modules. Since my serial is so slow, I am not sure as to whether I will need the Rs(8) and Vref (5) pins of the SN65HVD230DR I have coming to me. I was originally going to use the "232" model, but, thought better of it and switched to the "230" to be able to slow down the data rate to help compensate for any possible outside interference, which, at this point, is unclear as to whether it will be a problem. The application is residential and commercial. Not industrial, but, may be near 110VAC-240VAC or other means of interference, so the caution. What do you think?
