TS3USB221 SWITCHING TWO HOSTS TO ONE DEVICE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221

E2e,

Our customer is looking for a USB Switch that can switch two USB sources (Hosts) to one device. The data sheet for TI part number

TS3USB221 states the following:

"The device multiplexes differential outputs from a USB host device to one of two corresponding outputs."

The implication from the text is that the switch can switch a single host to one of two devices. Could the switch be turned around

such that one of two hosts can be connected to a single device?  If not, please recommend a switch that can.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

John Wiemeyer

"Yes the switch can be used to allow a single peripheral to be controlled by two different host depending on the switch status.

Please be aware that every time the switch is "thrown" a new connection event will be signalled on the new connected host and the device will go through the enumeration process, including loading the driver. Depending on the type of device and whether it is a class driver or "custom" driver this could be "silent" or could involve user intervention."
