DP83848I: The time from power-up to link-up?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848I

Dear Experts,

I have a quick question related to the power-up to link-up time of our DP83848I:

"As far as we understood from the datasheet and the forum threads, it takes 167ms from power-on until it achieves functional status. This was mostly to guarantee the stability of the 25Mhz clock source.

What we would like to know is the time it takes from power-on until the IC links up?

To be clear, on the other side we have a card that is ready for communication. Assuming that card also has DP83848I and is ready for cummunication, what would be the link up time of the DP83848I from power-up until it links up with the other DP838348I on the other card waiting for communication? "

This is the last point needing to be answered to be able to DWIN our device in this project.

Thanks,

Murat Ilhan.

  • Hi Murat,

Are you operating the PHY with Auto-Negotiation enabled and other standard configurations? The reason why I ask is that the auto-negotiation process varies. It really depends on how each device responds. Please refer to page 17 in the datasheet that talks about "Auto-negotiation complete time". The process can take around 2-3 seconds, however if you know what the link partner is capable then you can force the PHY to operate in a specific mode (i.e. 10BASE-T Half duplex, 10BASE-T Full duplex, 100BASE-TX half duplex, 100BASE-TX full duplex).

    Kind regards,
    Ross
