[ DS90UB925 ] I2S Audio Transport

[ DS90UB925 ] I2S Audio Transport

Hi expert,

Can you help me to understand the I2S audio transport between serializer and deserializer?

1: "Packetized" and "Forward Frame" I2S audio transport

From the application note (link below), I understand that there are two different method.

1: Packetized: I2S sample sent during video blanking

2: Forward Frame: audio signal embedded into videl stream

How do I select each mode? Any advantage and/or disadvantage of each mode?

Also in the datasheet, I assume that these two port can be selected by 0x18 [1], Data Path Control register.

Can you please let me know what is this "island transport"?

2:Disabling I2S Audio transport

It seems that there are no registers to disable I2S audio transport. Since my customer does NOT use I2S audio transport, they leave I2S pins (CLK, WC, DA) open. How can I disable I2S audio transport to prevent any of unexpected issue?

Thank you for your support in advance.

Regards,

Ken

  • Hi,
Sorry for rushing, however can anyone help me to support query from my customer?

    Thanks,
    Ken
  • Hi Ken,

The audio can either be transmitted during the blanking period, as video data, or separately from video (with its own dedicated bits). 'Forward channel frame transport' refers to the audio being transmitted when DE is inactive (blanking period). 'Data island transport' refers to the audio data being transmitted as separate bits independent of DE status.

Audio can't be disabled. If not being used, we recommend to tie the inputs low.

    Thanks,
    Jason
