SerDes Question_TLK3134

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK3134, TLK3131
Hi,
My customer looking for the SerDes.
Their requirements are as follows.
SerDes Data Rate = 1.6Gbps
Reference Clock = 160MHz
# of channels = 96
Encoding/Decoding = 8b/10b
I think it is possible to realize by EBI mode of TLK3134 at # of 3.
Is this understanding correct ?
Do you have any idea ?
Regards,
itabi
  • Hi Itabi,

Could you provide more information, please?

    1. What kind of protocol the customer wants to use?
    2. 96 channels? Because this device is a 4channel device.

  • Hi Luis Omar Morán Serna

    1. There isn't protocol in particular.

    2. My customer requirements are to realize the following transformation.

         8bits pair * 96 <-> 8b/10b <-> Serialize/De-serialize <-> 96 channel

(Reference Clock =160MHz, SerDes Data Rate = 1.6Gbps)

Is it possible to realize by TLK3131 at 96pcs or TLK3134 at 24pcs?

Can these device(TLK313x) be used as General Purpose SerDes like the above?

If it's impossible, are there other solutions which can be proposed?

    Best Regards,

    itabi

  • Hi itabi,

You are right. This is possible with both devices, although with TLK3134 (Quad Channel), is more feasible due to user could save space, power among other advantages in comparisson with the TLK3131. Using this device in EBI Mode (Eigh Bit Interface), 160MHz (Reference Clock), SERDES 8b/10b.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi Luis Omar Moran,

    <Additional Question>
Is the size of the FIFO fixed in EBI mode?
Does it have collision status in EBI mode?

    Best Regards,
    Itabi
  • Hi  Itabi,

In EBI mode is not fixed, just for XAUI mode but I would like to double-check with the designers.

  • Hi Luis Omar Moran,

    Thank you for your help.
Is it possible to confirm the Collision Status or FIFO Error?
