Not listed "tsk(o)" is the SN75LBC173 data sheet (SLLS170E).

Question----

Please tell me the value of tsk (o) of SN75LBC173.

    Hi Cafain,

    I looked into this today a little bit and am not sure that there will be a quick answer. The SN75LBC173 was released in 1993 and the SN75LVC173A was released in 2000. All of the designers and system engineers from that era have moved on to new roles at TI or have left TI.

    I am hesitant to suggest a value without a designer confirming the value or measuring it myself in the lab across several production devices. The problem with ICs that are this old is that it will be a challenge to find the hardware used to characterize the part. This is why I hinted that this may not be a quick answer. Tomorrow I will spend some time looking for the hardware and planning an alternate solution in case I am unable to locate a usable board. I will follow back up with you via e2e tomorrow to let you know what progress I have made.

    Also, I will be on international business travel starting Friday, so if I am unable to reach a suitable solution tomorrow I will ask one of my colleagues to pick up where I left off to provide you an answer.

    I apologize for the delay as I was on international travel last week but as promised in our initial conversation I am following up with you.

    I cannot locate the hardware for the SN65LBC173 so I have no way to measure the channel to channel skew for you in the lab. Also, the design is so old (1993) that even if the design file existed I am not sure that the design team could simulate anything as their design resources are probably not compatible with a file that is >20 years old. I will check with design though and ask if they can locate the file and simulate it.

    I was hoping to get a better understanding of what was changed from the non A to A version by examining the datasheets more closely but it looks like the timing parameter values are all different. Based on this we cannot assume that we can use the 2ns from the A version as a ballpark for the non A version. If design cannot give me an answer I am afraid that this information is lost to the sands of time.

    If channel to channel skew is an important parameter for you that must meet a certain criteria can you use the SN65LBC173A instead of the SN65LBC173 since the vale was characterized and provided in the datasheet? Is there another reason why you prefer the SN65LBC173 over the SN65LBC173A?

    I just spoke with the design team, the current design resources will not support this file so no simulations can be done.

    Hi Cafain,

    I enjoyed my time Shenzhen very much, thank you for asking.

    The SN65LBC173A is definitely a spin of the SN65LBC173 die so it will have the same functionality as the original device. If I had to guess, I would say that the device was probably spun in 2000 because a customer required a tighter spec on a few parameters. If anything the SN65LBC173A is a better device than the original SN65LBC173 and it should be a drop in replacement for the original silicon with very little to no impact to the new or current design.
