What is the min CLKIN frequency for an external oscillator on DS90UB913Q?

Hello,

I'm trying to get clarification on the minimum clock frequency for the DS90UB913Q serializer.

The datasheet says that PCLK should be between 10-100MHz. This is broken down into three modes which all together cover the entire 10-100MHz range:

12 bit LF mode: 10-50MHz PCLK. PCLK to EXTCLK is 1:1

12 bit HF mode: 15-75MHz PCLK. PCLK to EXTCLK is 1.5:1

10 bit mode: 20-100MHz PCLK. PCLK to EXTCLK is 2:1.

Does this mean then that in 12 bit HF mode the minimum EXT CLK is 10MHz (15/1.5)? Similarly in the 10 bit mode the minimum EXTCLK is 10MHz?

Has anybody had any luck running this chipset at the low end of their speed range?

Thanks,

Vivek

  • Hello Vivek,

Yes, that is correct that at minimum PCLK (i.e. differs depending on modes, for example 12-bit  LF mode is 10 MHz) a customer can use an external oscillator on the 913Q side of 10 MHz and seamlessly transition between different modes with minimum PCLK. The PCLK ranges you have listed above are verified and characterized by TI - we have had customer success across all PCLK frequencies listed here.
