Does the DP83848 compute a Cyclic Redundancy Check?

I was wondering what kind of error checking the DP83848 does.   I don't see any mention of a CRC in the data sheet but it is called out as part of the FCS in IEEE 802.3.  Or is this considered part of the MAC fucntionality.

 

Is there a document that descibes all the functions that the DP83848 does?

    No, the DP83848 does not compute the CRC.  As you deduced, this is part of the MAC functionality. 

    The datasheet is the best source of information on the DP83848 functionality.  We also have some application notes that expand on some aspects of the functionality.  If you have other questions, we can try to address them using the forum.
