Need to program a serial eeprom connected to a TUSB8020 USB HUB. The evaluation module User's Guide (SLLU196-March 2014) says that a Microsoft Windows based EEPROM utility is available upon request. How can I get that / where can I find it?

Do we need to configure this chip or it comes with configuration?

If we need to configure is there any tool available to do the configuration for this chip with our VID ?

Hi Nitesh,

The hub can be used without the EEPROM and pin configured. If you want to change VID/PID or add descriptors, EEPROM is needed. There is an EEPROM programming tool available.

That means suppose if i connect two downstream port to devices and upstream port to PC/Mobile(host) to and from hub, i don't need any configuration and i can use directly. PC can access both the device when both are connected. Please let me know is this understanding is correct or not?

What you mean by add descriptor here?

Hi Nitesh,

Yes, the hub can work as you described without an EEPROM. EEPROM can be used to change VID / PID, configure the device in different mdoes or add string descriptors (text that would show up in Device Manager describing the product).

Thanks for the reply. I am working on TUSB4020BI USB 2.0 Hub does this IC also works similar or we need to configure any control registers for the normal working apart from VID/PID and string display changes as you mentioned. Need your inputs

One more thing, i am using TUSB2046b , Need some details, whether i need to do any configuration for the HUB to handle the Data part when both device connected or HUB handles the Data part?

Hi Nitesh,

TUSB4020B can also be configured using only pin configurations (no EEPROM necessary).

Can you clarify what you mean by "data part"? Also, please be aware that the TUSB2046 is a full speed hub, not high speed.

I mean when HUB connected downstream port i.e. data bus ( D+ and D-) to data bus on the Device side.

I am using USB 2.0 2 port TUSB2046b HUB. Does it required to configure them to handle the two devices? or we can directly use as it is?

Here is my setup :

I have two device connected to HUB, even when two devices connected does the PC enumerates the both devices ? one of the device is MSP430 based USB in built microcontroller and another is Modem. In this case suppose i want to handle my MSP based device which device stack i need to use . Modem any way has the driver installed in PC and i can use without any problem.

But my doubt is how HUB is handle the my device data and Modem data ? or i can say how HUB handles both device? is there any thing i have to do for selecting downstream port to handle the devices?
