Computing current on Phy Transformer with DP83848YB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848YB

Hello

I was wondering if there is a way to compute the current applied to the PHY Transformer in the case of the DP83848YB for idle conditions, 10BaseT and 100Base T.

This is for a derating analysis.

Thanks

  • Michael,

On the "Technical documents" tab of the DP83848YB product folder, we have an application note on Power Measurement. This provides some information on current applied to the transformer in different modes.

Note that there is little difference in the transformer currents between idle mode and operational mode in 100Base-TX. Even when there is no packet traffic, the device continuously transmit idles in order to maintain the link.
