TSB81BA3I connected together

Hello,

I am currently troubleshooting a design that connects two TSB81BA3I together using its ports.  To clarify the set-up, let me refer to one of the transceivers as A and the other as B.   On the LLC side, transceiver A interfaces directly to a LLC TSB82AA2E using the D*/Control lines and on its media side (IEEE 1394 lines) using its port 3, it connects to transceiver B port 1.   D*/control lines on transceiver B are open/pull-down.   Both transceivers have its 98.304MHz active.  My questions regarding this set-up are as follow:

a) Do the connection from transceiver A port 3 to transceiver B port 1 is valid to do?

b) If the connections is valid, how does transceiver A and B sets its ports speeds?

More questions to come once a) question is answered
