TPS65982-EVM \ BIST Modes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982-EVM

Hello,

I am going to start experimenting with the TPS65982-EVM kit in the near future (somewhere next week hopefully).
The goal of these experiment is to get to know PD and USB C-type better.
Seeing as I want to try and form a test solution for PD, is it possible to get the TPS65982-EVM into the BIST modes that are mentioned in the PD Spec?
Is it possible to edit (corrupt) the BMC packets to see if the controller responds in a correct way?

Kind regards,

Martijn

  • Martijn,

I believe the BIST portion of this question will be covered by this other thread:

For the 2nd question, it sort of depends on how you want to "corrupt" the BMC packets.

If you truly want to corrupt the data by causing the data rate to slow down, you could replace the 220pF capacitors on CC1/CC2 of the TPS65982-EVM with larger capacitors, like 1-10nF, and watch as the signal "falls over", resulting in missing bits due to a violation of the maximum rise time for BMC.

If you want to send incorrect data, you can feed garbage (or psuedo-garbage) into DATA1/2 and then send the 'VDMs' command to CMD1/2 and record how the far-end USB-PD device responds.
