TPS65982 power adapter removed

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982

Dear Sir

I am referring TI docking reference design and have few question

1. if I insert the power adapter 20V into this EVM first ,I think TPS65982 could be configured to DFP and charge the notebook

2. But If I connect TI docking with MAC first and than insert the power adapter into TI docking ,could TPS65982 change the status from UFP to DFP automatically (when I set TPS65982 on DRP mode)??

3. Finally if TPS65982 is on DFP mode and charging notebook ,At this time ,I remove the power adapter ,could TPS65982 change the status from DFP to UFP automatically ( when I set TPS65982 on DRP mode)??

If you have a good idea or some experience ,Please kindly share with me

Thanks

  • Hi Kai,

Thank you for your questions. You can use the first default profile (TPS65982 Dual-Role Port, Prefers Power Source, Data Agnostic) in the TPS6598X-Config tool and add in the barrel jack detection GPIO event mapping to successfully meet these three requirements.

For a Dual Role Port for power, this default profile supports charging (Question 1). It also supports sinking via dead battery mode (Question 3). The Barrel Jack Detection event handles the clearing of the dead battery flag and initiates a Swap to Source command to enable the TPS65982 Dock as a power source (assuming the device on the other end for example a PC, accepts that Swap to Source command). (Question 2)

    Regards,
    Karl
