DP83867IR and TPS2378 10/100/1000 Ethernet and PoE+ Magnetics

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2378, DP83867IR

Hi,

I am planning a design supporting Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) and PoE+ (802.3at type 2 up to 25.5W).
I am looking into using the DP83867IR as the PHY and the TPS2378 as the PoE+ PD Controller.

Can you please recommend suitable magnetics for this task?

The TPS2378 Eval board uses Wurth 749022011 but has no PHY as it is a passthrough design.

The DP83867IR Eval Board uses Wurth 7499111000A RJ45 Connector with integrated magnetcis but doesn't support PoE.

Thanks in advance,

Phil Dawson

  • Hi Phil,

The discrete magnetics used in the TPS2378 EVM should be suitable as it lists the specs required by 802.3. If you look at the TPS2378 EVM schematic in the user's guide, the connector J2, titled as Ethernet Data, would be routed to the DP83867IR's PMD pairs, channel A,B,C,D.

Also the termination for the center taps on the TPS2378 EVM formed by R1, 2, 3, 5 and C12 would be removed. The device side terminations used by the DP83867IR EVM (C7-10) would be used instead.

    Best Regards,
