Dear Sirs

My customer uses TPS65982 for thunderbolt application.

Customer have two question as follow:

1.Could TI provide FW file about AR (30V/3A sink application)?

2. Could TI provide reference circuit about TPS65982 (only use internal MOS application)?

    Hi Nat,

    Thank you for your questions.

    For your first question, our configuration tool does not allow for a FW image with a sink PDO greater than 20V. A few reasons for this:

    • The USB PD specification does not support higher than a 20V contract therefore the 30V/3A sink PDO would never be negotiated
    • A custom USB-C cable would need to be built that supports that voltage and has an e-marker chip to identify that it can support that PDO
    • Finally, there are physical limitations on the power switches within the TPS65982, they are voltage tolerant to 24V per the current revision of the datasheet

    Additionally, I am unaware of a Thunderbolt host side application that would source 30V/3A. Did you happen to mean 20V/3A?

    In regards to your second question, we have two reference circuits using the TPS65982, a Type-C Dock Reference Design and the TPS65982-EVM (also a reference design). Can you please confirm if by internal MOS application you mean only using the integrate power paths?
