DS100BR111 - SATA II Repeater

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100BR111

Hello,

My customer have some questions about DS100BR111.

[Q1]

Is the following connection (Figure 1) possible in SATA II (3G) application ?

(I read "DS100BR111 as a SATA Repeater", so I think it is OK.)

Figure 1 : Connection

[Q2]

The following figures (Figure 2, Figure 3) are input EYE diagram of DS100BR111.

Are these input levels appropriate?

I think those are appropriate because there are differential signal level more than 190mVpp.

Figure 2 : Input EYE diagram of DS100BR111 (#1) INA+/-

Figure 3 : Input EYE diagram of DS100BR111 (#2) INA+/-

[Q3]

The following figures (Figure 4) are input EYE diagram of CPU.

That seems to be distorted.

Does anything know this cause ? Impedance mismatch ? overkill ?

Do you think it is improved by Equalizer and Emphasis ?

  • Hi Hiroshi,

    What are the DS100BR111 settings for CTLE, VOD, and DEM?

    The input signal does not have too much attenuation so I think a minimum amount of CTLE, DEM = 0 dB, and VOD = 700mV should produce a good eye at the CPU.

    It is interesting to see the eye crossing not at 0.0V.  This could be adding to the jitter on the DS100BR111 output.

    Regards,

    Lee

  • Hi Lee,

    Thank you for your fast response.

    1) CTLE, VOD, and DEM values are as follows.

     <DS100BR111(#1/#2) Channel A>

       CTLE = 11.5dB

       VOD = 700mV

       DEM = -3.5dB

     <DS100BR111(#1/#2) Channel B>

       CTLE = 2.5dB

       VOD = 700mV

       DEM = -3.5dB

    2) I'm sorry, your comment is not clear. Please answer prebious [Q1] and [Q2] with "Yes" or "No".

    3) Does following your comment mean setting of Channel A of DS100BR111 (#1) or all ?

    [Your Comment]

    The input signal does not have too much attenuation so I think a minimum amount of CTLE, DEM = 0 dB, and VOD = 700mV should produce a good eye at the CPU.

    4) I understood following your comment. However repeater can not improve the jitter. Is my understanding correct ?

    [Your Comment]

    It is interesting to see the eye crossing not at 0.0V.  This could be adding to the jitter on the DS100BR111 output.

  • Hi Hiroshi,

    Please try to use the CTLE = 2.5 dB setting on A as well, this should improve the signal.  Also set the DEM on A = 0 dB.  Keep the settings on CH B as they are right now.

    Lee

  • Hi Lee,

    Thank you for your fast reply.

    I will tell your comment to my customer.
    I look forward to the update.
