ISO3088 Power consumption.

Hi,

I'm thinking about using this RS-485 isolated transceiver. And I would like to know approximately the power consumption working to a speed of 1Mbps. I'm not sure If I'm reading well the datasheet.

According to the page 7/31 [8.7 Supply Current].

Icc1 [Vcc=3.3V] MAX = 8mA

Icc2 [Vcc=5V] MAX = 10mA

Then Total Power = 3.3*8 + 5*10 = 76.4 mWatts. Is it correct?

Hi,

The supply current table that you referred to lists maximum ICC1 and ICC2 with no load. Also, ICC2 max in the table is 15 mA (not 10 mA as you mentioned).

If you want to estimate power consumption with load (54 ohms, 50 pF), then also look at Figure 7 and Figure 8 in the data sheet.

You are right, so according to the page 7/31 [8.7 Supply Current].

Icc1 [Vcc=3.3V] MAX = 8mA
Icc2 [Vcc=5V] MAX = 15mA

Then Total Power (No Load) = 3.3*8 + 5*15 = 101.4 mWatts.

And Total Power approximately (Vcc1 = 3.3V, Vcc2 = 5V and Data Rate 1 Mbps) according to the Figure 7 in the data sheet:

Icc1 < 10mA
Icc2 < 50 mA

Then Total Power (with Load) < 3.3*10 + 5*50 < 283 mWatts.
