[DS80PCI810] Differential impedance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS80PCI810

Hi,

Could you please give me advise for differential impedance?

I'm recognizing that the differential impedance is 85Ω in PCIe GEN3.

However, why differential impedance is 100Ω?

Is my understanding wrong?

Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Hi Kuramochi-san,

The popular choice for differential impedance trace and connectors is 85-ohms for PCIe Gen-3. For Ethernet and SAS/SATA standards, the typical differential impedance design is 100-ohms. It is up to the designer's decision about which differential impedance to use in design.

The DS80PCI810 device can accept either 85-ohm od 100-ohm designs. The important thing to remember is to design for one differential impedance only. Problems in design arise when using 100-ohm connectors mixed with 85-ohm differential traces.

    Thanks,

    Michael
