TPS65982-EVM 5v and 12V DC to DC don't work

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982-EVM, TPS65982

Hi Team,

I have TPS65982-EVM board. I tried to play the board. looks like 5V and 12V DC to DC dont' work.  By the way, is there any firmware in the chip?

Regards,

  • Can you measure these voltages on the un-populated J5 header pins?

    J5, Pin 1 = HV_Source = 12V
    J5, Pin 2 = System_5V = 5V
    J5, Pin 3 = System_3V3 = 3.3V

If you plug in a Dell AC Adapter, you should see these voltages immediately, without any Type-C connector.

When you plug in the AC Adapter, you should also see the voltage the DC voltage on Pin 1 of J6 (External Power). It's usually around 19.6V
  • I measured J5, Pin1=0V, J5, Pin2=0V, and J5, P3=3.3V. Pin1 of J6=19.6V.

  • How many EVMs did you order?

There is TPS65982 FW loaded into the flash IC, but if your DC-DC converters aren't working it is possible the board was damaged during shipping or it was damaged the first time you plugged something into it.

The TPS65982 does not control the EN pins of these ICs, and the rails should come up as soon as you plug in the AC adapter.

U6 is used to generate the 5V rail, while U7 is used to generate the 12V rail. Do all the passive components on the board appear to be installed correctly (L3/L4, R92/R102, R94/R104)?

Is LED D5 (labeled 'B') on?
  • We ordered two EVMs. L3/L4, R92/R102, and R94/R104 are all installed. LED D5 is not on.
