TUSB 8041 Swapping transmit and receive pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8041

HI,

I am building a usb hub with up and down stream ports usb 3.0 micro b using chip tusb8041. When laying out the board, I ran into the problem of difficulty in connecting tx to tx+ and tx - to tx- on micro b connector pin out. I am thinking of swapping transmit and receive pins as shown in figure. Will it affect functionality? will it violate USB3.0 IEEE regulation?

Can I do the same to the USB d+ and d-? I read online it is not advisable in case of USB 2.0? Is it right or wrong?

  • Hi Niranjan,

USB 3.0 signals can be polarity swapped without any configuration changes, it is supported by the specification. To swap the USB 2.0 signals requires a configuration change in the device using I2C.
