SN65LVCP114 Unused Port IO

Hello,

     In my application, only two of the three available ports will be used. Is there a recommended strategy to setting the unused ports IO? (e.g. ground inputs, leave outputs floating, etc)

    Hi Jack,

    You can leave the port floated, have you considered using SN65LVCP1412 or SN65LVCP1414?

    Hi Moises, 

        I originally looked at the SN65LVCP1414 for this application however I also need per port loopback control which the SN65LVCP114 can facilitate along with link equalization.

         Can I ground the unused port inputs?

    Secondly, 

         I am using I2C to configure this device so I am no connecting all the GPIO control signals minus the few required to facilitate normal device operation. can I ground these signals without causing issue or should I leave them floating? The only motivation for grounding these signals is to allow a top level ground pour to travel from the center of the BGA out around the device for thermal dissipation. The more unused pins I tie to ground the more copper will actually be used to conduct thermal energy away from the ground field in the center of the part.

    Hi Jack,

    If configuration pins are not used in I2C mode, you can tie them to ground.

    For main link signals, don't tie to ground output pins, and is not recommended to tie to ground input pins because you will sink current from bias voltage, producing more heat.
