SN65HVD33 Failure mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD33

Dear all,

I would like to know what are the failure modes for this part: output shorted  to ground, open circuit....

Is there any document that specifies the different failure modes and their probability?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Nuba.

  • Hi Nuba,

The SN65HVD33 supports fail safe biasing for open, short, and bus idle conditions. Here is a blog that I wrote on the fail safe biasing topic. I discussing implementing external fail safe biasing but the idea is the same for a device that supports it. There are also plenty of application notes out their on this topic, a quick google search will bring a number of them back for you. Check this link for some literature.

Please let me know if you have other questions?

  • Thanks Michael,

I was actually talking about what would be tha failure mode for this part when it fails. This part has a MTBF of 2.67x 10^9. I would like to know what is the state of the part when the failure occurs.

    Thanks in advance.

    Nuba.

  • Hi Nuba,

Failures like this are unpredictable, the device can break open or short. There is no real way to predict this type of failure. Unfortunately, I do not have a better answer as these things are random and there is not a ton of data out there on it.
