About TPD4E1U06 for Ethernet

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD4E1U06

Hi all,

I have a question about TPD4E1U06.

According to a document(tidu515a.pdf: EN55011-Compliant, Industrial Temperature
10/100-Mpbs Ethernet PHY Brick) ,TPD4E1U06 is inserted between the RJ45 and
the Magnetics(HX1198FNL), but I often find some other makers documents that are
described that a ESD protection device is inserted between the Magnetics and
the PHY device.

Are effects different by two method?

Best regards.

  • Hello Tsuyoshi,

An objective in ESD protection design is to place the TVS as close to the source as possible, which helps to suppress any EMI entering the system as soon as possible. IF POE is used, the ESD protection should be between the magnetics and PHY so that the TVS is not being biased by the POE. In the case of tidu515a.pdf there is no POE, so placing the TVS near to the RJ45 connector is possible.

    Regards,
  • Hello Yater-san,
