    Hi Patrick,

    The CAN2.0 specification actually doesn't include the physical layer characteristics that would be relevant for a transceiver chip like SN65HVD1040. It relates more to the CAN protocol/data link layer. The physical layer (i.e., properties of the actual electrical signals on the bus sent and received by a transceiver chip) are defined in ISO 11898-2, which is referenced in the SN65HVD1040 datasheet. The device could be used with a CAN2.0-compliant controller, though.
