TPS65982 reference circuit question

Hi Team,

my customer has a question about the TPS65982 reference circuit that shown on the latest Intel Apline Ridge reference design as attached, at page 6 of the reference design, the RPD_G1/G2 are connected to the C_CC1/2 together, while the previous version of the reference design has the RPD_G1/G2 connected to GND.

So, customer wants to know what are the purposes of this circuit changed? and should they need to follow up this changed? Or they can still keep the RPD_G1/G2 connected to GND for their system appliation that only supports 5V/3A single type C port?

    Intel Alpine Ridge (AR) Host in 2015 was essentially a reference design for a desktop computer that is always powered externally via an AC Adapter.
    The original design can only provide power, and has no use for sinking power. When the TPS65982 RPD_G1/G2 pins are tied to GND, this disables Dead Battery/No Battery support for a product.

    Future versions of the AR Host (also referred to as AIC or SV) in 2016/17 may be more versatile and apply as a reference design to a high-end laptop or even a Desktop that can be Bus-Powered over a Type-C cable. I do not have all of the details yet from Intel, but this much is clear: Dead Battery/No Battery support it needed.
    Therefore, to support Dead Battery/No Battery, RPD_G1 is shorted to CC1 & RPD_G2 is shorted to CC2.
