tps2549 compensation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2549

Hello, i was wondering if the tps2549 ic compensates for voltage droop under normal operation of devices or only during charging?  Basically we have an application that requires operation with long USB cables and several series interconnects.  Can this IC in conjunction with something like TBUS211 improve performance where cables are slightly longer than 3 meters?

thanks

  • TPS2549 simply provides a linear output signal proportional to the load current through the internal power switch. This linear output signal (CS pin) interacts with the DC/DC converters output voltage to provide the load end compensation. So, under "nominal" or lower load current conditions, the voltage compensation provided is not as much as for the higher than nominal (load charging for example) condition.

The entire interconnect including additional connectors can be modelled and used to set up the desired compensation between TPS2549Q1 and the DC/DC converter. There are limitations though on how high the DC/DC converter end voltage can be raised because it cannot exceed the ABS MAX of the TPS2549Q1 inputs.
