TLK10232 - Acceptable trace insertion loss on LS signal lane (XAUI input/output)

Hi Team,

Could you please advise me the acceptable insertion loss for LS signal lane (XAUI input/output) ?

I see ISI on our customer board when their is 01 frequent transition that amplitude would be 20% of nominal amplitude. We are wondering if this signal is acceptable for TLK10232.

  • Hi Kawai,

In the data sheet is states that the minimum voltage that can be received by the TLK10232 by the HS and LS receivers is 50mV differential. Is important to mention that the LOS assert threshold is higher than the minimum input voltage, so it is possible to have a link up and running with LOS asserted.  This may seem counter-intuitive, but it can be useful to have some indication of a signal problems before errors actually occur - especially since the device already has mechanisms to indicate bit errors at the receiver.

  • Hello Luis-san,

We had recognized the this VID specification in the datasheet page 89. However, we thought that this description would be only applicable to signal which has flat frequency characteristics. If there are long traces, higher frequency portion would be decreased due to insertion loss. In this case, I think we may need the device requirement of the input eye mask (width and height). What do you think ?
