TPS65982 Displayport with USB-C connector

I'm planning on using the following block diagram from the TPS65982 Datasheet for DisplayPort output with USB-C connector. If I'm not planning on using the USB 3.0, is the HD3SS460 MUX needed for any reason?

Hi Benjamin,

If this is a captive cable design then you do not need the HD3SS460 (SS MUX) since the DP signal orientation will always be known. If it is not a captive cable design you will need to properly mux the DisplayPort signals with the HD3SS460.

Thank you for your response! My understanding of a captive cable in this case is one in which wires are fixed in place. Is that correct?

Would the SS MUX would be facilitating the flipping of the ends of the USB type-C connector in a non-captive cable design?
