TCA9548A Hot Insertion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9548A

Hello,

Our customer uses the TCA9548A, has a question.

It is mentioned 'Supports Hot Insertion' on feature of  the datasheet.

But there is no information on another page.

What does it means 'Hot Insertion' ?

He wants to know that function.

Regards,

Naoki Aoyama

  • Aoyama-san,

"Hot-Insertion' is supported because when the device is powered off, the ports are high impedance, and when the device receives power, all ports are remained in high impedance until a command is sent to connect a channel.

Basically, because the device stays high impedance until told otherwise, it can support hot insertion since it will not let I2C transactions go through the device, which could cause i2c transaction corruption if the insertion were to happen during a transaction.

  • Hi Jonathan,
    Thank you for your reply.
I will feedback to the customer this information.

    Thanks,
    Naoki Aoyama
